Critique Groups

How do you find that perfect critique group?  I hear from so many published authors that their critique group has helped get them to their present level of performance.

In in order to play better tennis, you need to be practicing with a better partner than you are. I think the same is true for writers. In order to write better, you need to be working with better writers who challenge you, who pick your drafts apart and suggest ideas, suggest a word change here or a phrase cut there. A critique member has to give your manuscript the time needed to critically look at your piece.

And a critique group needs to cheer you on when you come up with an idea or write a great draft, commiserate with you when you receive that next rejection letter, and always, always encourage you.

Do YOU have a great critique group?

I love to read a good story. Writing stories for others is way more challenging, especially if the story is for children! What a fascinatingly complex industry!
